Rain stopped play ... if only!

With beards, bellies and heads still in holiday mode, the Mad Dogs opened the batting...A green pitch, cloud over head coupled with some brilliant fielding from Chan and the Dogs found themselves floundering with a Miserly and miserable 46 off 14.

But then came Alex Thalis...Fresh off the boat from Blighty, degree certificate in one hand and willow in the other…With some youthful intent and Aussie mongrel, Alex smashes a resounding 49 runs that surely saved the mad dogs from the worst performance in its history.

With some great support play from Thalis senior, the mad dogs finally end on 94 off 20....A similar score to the Sydney Sixers the prior evening...A reasonable finish to a calamitous start....

However, on come the mad dogs attack with some solid stock bowling by the ever reliable Garvey, an impactful appearance by B Fenech, mad dogs ring-in Charlie ‘Hereford’ and once again some rattling ‘chin music’ by Thalis Junior and we manage to hold Hunters Hill to a respectable 112...

So, game on for the final 20/20...Or so we thought….

Mad Dogs floundering with 15 off for 4 with 3 wickets down...Harvey run out on his 2nd ball (not a happy Chappy:-).

We find ourselves on 28 off 8 with 4 down and a handy innings from both Phil Thales and the ever dependable Ed Settle (fresh from the farm), steadying the ship...

With a total of 80 to chase and some early wickets from big name signing M ‘Warne’ Harvey, it seemed like we were in with a chance….

Alas…More chance of platting fog...With a smattering of ‘Pups’ on both teams, it seemed like an under 10’s game at times…...Finally the Dogs were violently put out of their misery by the Hunters Hill middle order at the 15 over mark.…

Highlights of the day, massive sledging by Saunders to Harvey, Bourne's catch (after 2 not so gallant efforts ;-), Ed, Alex & Phil’s solid innings....

Lowlights, a number of no shows on the day, one or two players short of a victory and a few sandwiches short of a picnic!

Oh what could (& should) have been….

The End...
